藍鳥在3局接連從遊騎兵先發投手漢默斯（Cole Hamels）手中敲出安打，包括土洛威斯基（Troy Tulowitzki）在滿壘敲出帶有3分打點的3壘安打，這是季後賽史上第14支，也是土洛威斯基生涯第一次在滿壘時敲三壘安打；4局厄普頓（Melvin Upton Jr.）再補上一發陽春砲，讓漢默斯最後僅投3.1局就下場，失7分、6分自責。
而對藍鳥先發投手艾斯特拉達（Marco Estrada）來說，前4局就拿下7分領先十分足夠，他主投8.1局僅被敲4支安打失1分，也締造了藍鳥隊史投手在季後賽先發最長局數的紀錄，遊騎兵直到9局下才靠著安德魯斯（Elvis Andrus）的三壘打以及秋信守的滾地球破蛋。
艾斯特拉達表示，「當到客場比賽，你會想讓球迷安靜下來，而我認為我們今天做得相當不錯，很明顯的我們不想讓他們炒熱氣氛，而4局拿下7分，足夠讓他們閉嘴了。」
藍鳥「包大爺」巴提斯塔（Jose Bautista）9局再敲出3分砲，將比分擴大到10：0，旦這次他沒有甩棒，而是將球棒輕輕放在本壘旁，巴提斯塔說，「我生涯敲了不少全壘打，但我記得只甩了一次棒，大多數我都跟今天一樣，不過因為去年的事才被大家放大檢視。」
巴提斯塔去年用3分砲淘汰遊騎兵，霸氣甩棒讓兩隊結仇，今年5月16日雙方更因觸身球、滑壘等爭議，讓巴提斯塔與遊騎兵二壘手歐德（Rougned Odor）在二壘大打出手。
明天凌晨1時進行第二戰，藍鳥推出20勝投手哈普（J.A. Happ），對上遊騎兵日籍投手達比修有。
