國聯外卡賽的投手大戰果然精彩，大都會「雷神」辛德加前5局沒被敲出安打，先發7局無失分還飆7K，但巨人「瘋龐」龐加納不愧是季後賽之王，以119球完投9局，並靠奇兵蓋拉斯皮在9局上打出關鍵3分炮，幫助巨人以3比0完封大都會，將在分區系列賽對決小熊。
「這會是很有趣的比賽，但同時也非常緊張，」龐加納說：「差別在於你如何去準備和看待它們。」
季後賽的龐加納就是特別瘋狂，昨役前3局只用21球就連退9人，最後連賞大都會9顆鴨蛋。加上前年世界大賽，這已是瘋龐在季後賽連3次登板、連續23局無失分。
「你很想做出貢獻，成為幫助球隊致勝的那個人，我覺得我們已經很努力的奮戰了，」大都會內野手TJ芮維拉說：「很不幸的是，我們就是打不好他的球。」
龐加納季後賽生涯自責分率1.94再創新低，15場出賽戰績8勝3敗，其中13場先發竟有近半的6場無失分。更可怕的是，瘋龐簡直不知「壓力」為何物，他在季後賽客場8度登板，自責分率是不可思議的0.50！
巨人打線則在辛德加退場後開始出擊，8局上攻占滿壘雖然無功而返，但9局上蓋拉斯皮逮住大都會終結者法米利亞的96哩紅中沉球，大棒掃出3分全壘打，打破0比0僵局。
「我甚至搞不清楚我打到的那顆是什麼球，對我來說都是一樣的，」蓋拉斯皮說：「你能做的就是相信自己，想辦法找到一個合適的球，做出最棒的揮擊，那球也許是我面對他的唯一機會！」
要說蓋拉斯皮建功有多麼令人吃驚？這麼說吧，除了6年大聯盟生涯僅有31轟，在國聯比賽排在先發第8棒，等於打擊評價在先發野手中敬陪末座，就去年的數字相比，蓋拉斯皮的全壘打還輸給龐加納（4轟比5轟），結果他成了跌破眾人眼鏡的英雄。
